Winzerk

Convert an Image to ICO

Use an ICO file when a desktop shortcut or application expects an icon container rather than a normal picture. Winzerk builds a single ICO with several sizes from each input image, so the receiving software can select a suitable size.

What the ICO contains

Each export includes 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, 128×128, and 256×256 images stored as PNG data inside the ICO. Non-square artwork is centered in each square while keeping its proportions. Check compatibility with the target application: some older software expects different ICO encodings.

Convert with Winzerk

Add a PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, BMP, or HEIC/HEIF image and select ICO. Click Convert All and download the icon. Several input files create separate ICO files; they are not combined into a single icon. A ZIP can collect the batch.

Design for the smallest size

Use simple shapes and enough contrast to remain readable at 16 pixels. A transparent PNG is a useful source for an icon without a rectangular background; converting a JPEG does not automatically remove its background. The standard resize controls are hidden for ICO because its sizes are fixed. Tiny source artwork will not gain detail when enlarged. Winzerk creates the file locally but does not install it or change system icons for you.
